A Bradley grandmother is behind bars after allegedly abusing her grandchild
while in her custody.
Julie Carlene Stroud, 40, was arrested Tuesday night by Grady County
Deputies Jason Carpenter and Chuck Berryhill.
In an affidavit filed with the court for an arrest warrant, Sherriff’s
Detective Brian Layton said the 1-year-old child had large bruises on her
body and had a bloody nose and two scratches on her face.
When taken to Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, doctors found that the
child’s right leg was broken. From the injury, doctors estimated that the
child’s leg had been broken for two weeks to one month.
Stroud told Layton that she had spanked the child recently for not learning
to walk, according to the affidavit.
She also said has used her hand and a ping pong paddle to punish the child.
Stroud explained the bruises by saying that the child had fallen down a lot
while learning to walk.
The child had been placed in Stroud’s custody after the infant’s mother,
Amanda Maxon, pled guilty to accessory to first degree murder in Oklahoma
County.
Maxon is serving a 40-year sentence with the Department of Corrections.
Stroud is currently in Grady County Jail and is expected to be arraigned
later today.
